The Swedish brand Maurten offers a variety of sports nutrition products. It was named after Mårten, a triathlete and family friend of the company's founder and entrepreneur Olof Sköld. The Gel 100 Caf 100 is completely different, it is made using hydrogel technology. It provides 25g of carbohydrates and has 100 kcal per sachet thanks to a unique blend of fructose and glucose (0.8:1 ratio). The hydrogel is particularly well tolerated because it encapsulates carbohydrates and salts and enables the nutrients to be transported quickly into the intestines, where they are finally absorbed. One sachet contains 100mg of caffeine - equivalent to 1.5 espresso or one cup of brewed coffee. Caffeine has been shown to have positive effects on attention and can reduce perceived exertion and pain. These properties can have a positive effect on athletic performance.
